Dubai Customs has ramped up operational readiness ahead of the peak summer travel period, with roughly three million passengers expected to move through Dubai's airports during the first half of July alone.

The heightened preparations stem from an integrated operational plan built to keep passenger flow smooth while delivering a fast and secure travel experience. Officials say the effort supports the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and reinforces the emirate's standing as a top global destination for tourism and business.

The plan follows a series of coordination meetings between Dubai Customs and Dubai Airports aimed at reviewing readiness and managing the steady rise in visitor numbers without compromising service quality.

Currently, Dubai Customs runs 19 baggage screening systems and 77 detection and inspection units across the airport's terminals, boosting capacity and speeding up checks. In a notable upgrade, manual baggage screening in arrivals halls has been trimmed down to just seven seconds per bag, cutting wait times while preserving accuracy and security.

Passengers are also being reminded of customs rules, including an allowance of up to AED3,000 in gifts free of duty, provided the items are personal, limited in quantity and not meant for trade.

Separately, Dubai Customs is partnering with Dubai Airports to create dedicated pet inspection rooms in Terminals 1, 2 and 3, offering a proper setting for veterinary checks.

Khalid Ahmed, Director of the Passenger Operations Department at Dubai Customs, said preparations began early this year and reflect ongoing investment in smart technology and staff capability. He noted that faster processing, including the seven-second screening benchmark, has not come at the cost of security, but rather strengthens it.

Ahmed added that Dubai Customs remains committed to initiatives that improve passenger experience and cement Dubai's reputation for innovation and ease of travel.
