Dubai's Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) is teaming up with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to develop and assess a comprehensive guide to natural reserves, a move set to headline the emirate's first Environment Conference and Exhibition this September.
Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, revealed the partnership during a press briefing in Dubai announcing the inaugural event. The conference, themed "Protecting Our Environment… Securing Our Future," will run on 7 and 8 September and bring together government officials, private sector leaders and environmental specialists to chart the future of sustainability in the emirate.
Bin Thani said the natural reserves guide forms part of a broader slate of initiatives the authority plans to showcase at the gathering. Among the highlights is a new Environmental Photography Award launched in partnership with the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, designed to draw the public into conservation efforts through visual storytelling.
According to bin Thani the award will help build environmental awareness and encourage community involvement in protection efforts using art as a tool for engagement.
The conference will also unveil a number of biodiversity focused initiatives alongside programmes intended to widen public participation in environmental action. Organisers say these projects will underline DECCA's role in safeguarding Dubai's natural environment while promoting awareness among residents.
Bin Thani described the event as a platform to strengthen dialogue on environmental and climate issues at both national and regional level. He added that the conference reinforces Dubai's standing as a global centre for sustainability and environmental innovation, drawing decision-makers and experts together to explore what comes next for the emirate's green agenda.
