Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has completed an extensive maintenance and rehabilitation programme on the Dubai Metro's tunnel infrastructure, reinforcing the city's commitment to world-class public transit standards.

The initiative is part of RTA's ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance framework, which combines advanced technologies with specialised engineering solutions to extend asset life, improve operational efficiency and maintain safety across the metro network.

Over the past year, RTA conducted 51 specialised tunnel inspections under precision operational plans. The inspections identified and resolved 873 corrective maintenance tasks, with the authority achieving 100% of both its preventive and corrective maintenance targets — a result RTA says reflects its corporate commitment to safety, asset sustainability and service quality.

Maintenance activities covered a broad scope of work, including periodic inspections, specialised cleaning, resolution of technical defects, replacement of end-of-life assets and continuous improvement projects designed to sustain long-term system performance.

Tunnel cleaning formed a key component of the programme, with teams deploying a combination of manual cleaning and high-pressure washing technologies to remove dust, debris and surface build-up that could compromise operational safety or system efficiency.

All works were carried out in accordance with international rail sector standards and global best practices. The programme also prioritised the development of technical capabilities within RTA's specialised teams, with continuous training and qualification initiatives designed to keep personnel aligned with the latest technologies and industry benchmarks.

The completed rehabilitation works support RTA's broader vision for sustainable operational excellence and position Dubai Metro to maintain its standing as one of the region's leading mass transit systems.
