Dubai Municipality has opened a new integrated pet shelter at the Birds and Pets Market in Warsan, marking a significant expansion of the emirate's animal welfare and veterinary services.
The facility offers a safe, humane environment for stray and loose companion animals while supporting responsible adoption and sustainable population management.
Animals at the shelter receive care aligned with internationally recognised health and welfare standards before being matched with suitable adoptive families. The project ties into the objectives of the Dubai Civility Committee, aiming to enhance the city's urban landscape and promote positive community behaviour as part of everyday life for residents and visitors.
To support the initiative, Dubai Municipality has signed memoranda of understanding with Vets Fur Pets Veterinary Clinic and Phoenix Veterinary Clinic. These partnerships will strengthen animal care standards through international best practices, digital solutions and community outreach, including Trap Neuter Return programmes for stray cats and treatment initiatives for stray dogs and cats.
Alongside the shelter's launch, the Municipality introduced a digital adoption platform where users can browse animals available for adoption and review their health and behavioural profiles, making the adoption process more accessible and informed.
The shelter features a Customer Happiness Centre, pre-adoption viewing areas, interactive adoption rooms, a fully equipped veterinary clinic with a surgical operating theatre, a grooming unit and a lost pet reunification centre.
Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafei, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the shelter reflects a "One Health" approach linking human, animal and environmental wellbeing, supporting Dubai's ambition to become the world's best city to live in.
The launch follows the earlier rollout of the region's first AI powered "Ihsan" smart feeding stations across Dubai.
