Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority opened a new three-lane bridge on Sunday, marking another milestone in the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, now 90 percent complete.
The bridge carries traffic from Al Khail Road toward Al Asayel Street via Al Wasl Club Street and can handle 3,600 vehicles per hour. It follows two earlier bridges opened in the first quarter of the year at nearby intersections, part of a wider effort to ease congestion across the corridor.
RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said the project falls under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project and is designed to meet the demands of urban growth. He noted that once complete, it will include four upgraded intersections, two tunnels totaling 4,300 metres, and 14 kilometres of roads.
The areas served include Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club, home to a population expected to surpass 420,000 by 2030.
Al Tayer added that the project will raise Oud Metha Street's capacity by 50 percent, from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions, while cutting travel time from 20 minutes to just five, a 75 percent improvement.
By the end of August, RTA plans to open two tunnels. One will link the Oud Metha Street service road to the Sheikh Rashid Road intersection for traffic heading to Bur Dubai. The other will serve vehicles moving from Dubai-Al Ain Road toward Al Wasl Club Street. A further bridge for left-turn traffic between Al Asayel Street and Oud Metha Street is also planned.
The project forms part of RTA's broader push to modernise Dubai's road network and support the city's expanding population and infrastructure needs.
