Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has launched the city's first smart bus station at Mall of the Emirates, signalling a new era in public transport infrastructure powered by digital technology and sustainable design.
The station, spanning approximately 147 square metres, operates 24/7 through a fully integrated suite of digital services designed to cut waiting times and deliver a seamless journey experience for up to 20 customers at a time.
At its core is a real-time information display system connected directly to Dubai Metro, taxi services and bus arrivals, allowing commuters to plan multi-modal journeys from a single interface. A smart kiosk provides access to a virtual assistant, Lost and Found services and call centre support, while dedicated screens show live bus occupancy levels to help distribute passenger demand across routes.
The station serves 11 bus routes — including six metro feeder lines, three internal routes and two seasonal services — and connects key districts such as Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Jumeirah Village Circle and Arabian Ranches, alongside tourist destinations including Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village. A direct link to Mall of the Emirates Metro Station enables smooth cross-modal transfers.
Safety is managed through AI-powered cameras that monitor crowd levels and detect violations in real time, feeding data to operations teams to support faster decision-making on the ground.
Sustainability is built into the station's fabric, with solar panels generating on-site power and smart sensors continuously monitoring air quality — reflecting RTA's broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said the station forms part of a wider initiative to redefine everyday mobility through advanced technology, with plans to roll out the model across additional stations in the future.
