As per a report by The National, Dubai residents are required to request permission to distribute iftar meals to the public during Ramadan, according to official sources. This step is part of the authorities' efforts to guarantee the safety of donated food and to ensure that meals are distributed to various locations.
For Muslims, participating in charity work during Ramadan is customary, which includes giving food and money to those in need. Nonetheless, authorities have specified that residents must not engage in charity campaigns or distribute iftar meals without obtaining a license.
According to Mohammed Dahi, Director of Charitable Institutions, individuals may apply to the department for permission to distribute iftar meals, specifying the distribution area to make the process more structured. The report cited that applications for permits can be submitted through the department's website or by calling 800600.
Emirates ID, location of distribution, and name and location of the restaurant providing food are among the documents required, Dahi said.
The report also mentioned that distributing iftar meals without permission could result in a fine ranging from AED5,000 to AED10,000 and a jail term of 30 days to a year.
If distributing iftar meals is not feasible, charitable work can still be done through donating to a charitable organization, as per Dahi.
