Dubai to Trial Hydrogen-Powered Buses in Push for Sustainable Transport

In a pioneering move towards sustainable urban transport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a collaboration with Swaidan Trading Company to introduce eco-friendly hydrogen buses to the city’s streets.

The agreement, signed recently, will see hydrogen-fueled buses undergo rigorous testing on Dubai's urban roads to assess their performance under local climatic conditions. Coordinated efforts with hydrogen supplier ENOC and other partners will ensure seamless production and supply of the fuel.

According to Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, these buses mark a significant step towards a cleaner future for transportation.

"Hydrogen offers three times the energy density of diesel with zero harmful emissions, positioning it as a game-changer in sustainable technology,"

he stated.

The buses, equipped with cutting-edge fuel cell systems from Zhongtong Bus Holding Co. Ltd., are poised to redefine long-distance travel in Dubai.

Swaidan Al Naboodah, Managing Director of Swaidan Trading Company, expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential to drive innovation in public transport solutions.

RTA plans to gather feedback from drivers and passengers to continually enhance service quality and innovate within Dubai’s public transport sector.

As Dubai cements its commitment to sustainable development, the trial of hydrogen buses signals a promising future for eco-friendly urban mobility in the Emirates.
