The Dubai Sports Council has unveiled its "Active Summer" initiative, a citywide sporting programme running until August 31, 2026, designed to position Dubai as a year-round destination for physical activity and competitive sport.
Developed in collaboration with national institutions and event organisers, the initiative spans a broad range of disciplines including water, marine, snow, mountain, and indoor sports, with dedicated programmes for People of Determination and activities tailored to all ages and fitness levels.
"The initiative aims to foster a culture of sports and physical activity among all segments of society, regardless of age or nationality, encompassing both residents and visitors,"
said Essa Sharif, Director of the Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council.
A centrepiece of the summer agenda is the Dubai Mallathon, running from June 15 to September 15, which invites amateur and professional participants to compete in running and walking races inside air-conditioned shopping centres. Launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event recently set a Guinness World Record for the largest indoor mall race of its kind, drawing over 40,000 participants.
Dubai Sports World, open from June 27 to August 25, adds to the calendar with indoor tournaments and newly introduced programmes including Dubai Kids World and senior-focused activities developed in partnership with the Thukher Club. The "Summer Activity for People of Determination," running from June 22 to July 30 under the theme "Our Summer is Beautiful," brings specialised sports programming to further broaden community participation.
The competitive line-up extends across basketball, esports, football, gymnastics, swimming, sailing, boxing, and bodybuilding. At Ski Dubai, the schedule includes a Freestyle Skiing Grand Prix, alpine and snowboarding training camps, and the internationally recognised Hyrox indoor ice fitness challenge.
