Dubai Taxi Company (DTC), National Taxi and Hala, the e-hailing joint venture between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem, have renewed their strategic agreement for a further five years.
Under the renewed deal, DTC and National Taxi will make more than 7,700 taxis, excluding the airport fleet, available for booking through Hala on the Careem app. The platform now counts more than 26,000 Captains and 13,000 taxis. Since Hala launched in 2019, nearly 120 million trips across the two operators have been booked through it.
Hala was the first homegrown e-hailing venture of its kind, bringing the emirate’s taxi franchises onto a private-sector ride-hailing app at scale. It pairs DTC’s taxi management systems and operational experience with Careem’s e-hailing technology.
For DTC, the partnership has widened access to its fleet beyond street-hailing, improved vehicle utilisation and connected its drivers to a growing base of app-based customers. For Hala, DTC’s fleet has underpinned its scale and reliability, helping keep availability high and wait times short. The agreement also supports the RTA’s directive to move 80 per cent of taxi trips to e-booking by 2030.
Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, Group CEO of Dubai Taxi Company, said the renewal allows the partners to build on their progress, strengthen integration between services and keep improving service quality and customer experience.
Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO of Hala, said the platform has grown from a pilot with a couple of thousand vehicles into one of the region’s most established e-hailing services, and credited its Captains for that growth.
