Dubai to Host 3rd UNESCO World Open Educational Resources Congress
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), in collaboration with UNESCO, is set to host the 3rd UNESCO World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress, titled ‘Digital Public Goods: Open Solutions and AI for Inclusive Access to Knowledge’.
Scheduled for November 19-20, 2024, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the event is a significant milestone as it marks the first time the Congress will be held in the Arab world.
Running alongside the Knowledge Summit 2024—jointly organized by MBRF and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)—the congress will draw approximately 500 ministers, senior officials, and sector leaders from education, digital services, and communications. This global gathering aims to unlock the potential of Open Educational Resources, promoting equitable access to knowledge and encouraging digital collaboration.
The congress will delve into how OER can be harnessed to foster global knowledge sharing, aligning with UNESCO’s 2019 recommendation on open resources. Participants will discuss collaborative strategies, emerging AI technologies, and best practices to expand OER access worldwide. A highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the Dubai Declaration for Action on OER, a framework for advancing inclusive, quality education globally.
The event’s alignment with the Knowledge Summit underscores Dubai's role as a global knowledge hub. By featuring breakthrough insights and solutions, the summit offers an invaluable platform for stakeholders, strengthening the global pursuit of sustainable and accessible knowledge for all.
