Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has reached 90 percent completion on a 1,500-metre, four-lane bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour, with the first phase set to open to traffic this June.

The bridge stretches from Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai, through the Al Naseem and Al Falak Street intersection, across King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, and into Dubai Harbour Street. It will carry up to 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and is expected to cut journey times from 12 minutes to three minutes.

The phased opening begins in June for motorists travelling from Sheikh Zayed Road, from both the Deira and Jebel Ali directions, towards Dubai Harbour. July will see traffic flow open from Dubai Harbour towards Al Naseem Street and from the new bridge towards the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street intersection.

Construction has involved more than 4.2 million work hours, with 1,400 engineers and workers deployed across 12 teams. The project has consumed over 45,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8,273 tonnes of steel. Work also includes at-grade improvements at four key intersections along the corridor.

RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer described the project as a model of public-private partnership, developed in coordination with Shamal Holding, which manages Dubai Harbour. He said the bridge supports Dubai's broader urban and economic growth agenda and improves connectivity to one of the emirate's key waterfront and tourism destinations, home to the largest yacht marina in the Middle East.

Shamal Holding CEO Abdulla Binhabtoor said the bridge marks a significant milestone in Dubai Harbour's development and reflects the long-term investment approach that underpins the destination's continued growth.
