Emirates has become the first airline in the world to offer Comprehensive Travel Cover, a groundbreaking insurance product that extends protection to conflict-related medical incidents and travel disruptions — a gap that has long existed in the industry.
The product, developed in partnership with global insurance leader Travel Guard, goes beyond standard travel insurance by including unlimited medical expense cover, emergency evacuation worldwide, trip cancellation protection, and compensation for baggage delay or loss. Crucially, it also covers medical costs and disruptions arising from conflict zones, a benefit no airline has previously offered under a managed insurance product.
Emirates has paired the insurance with direct operational support. Where flights are cancelled due to conflict-related disruption, or when itineraries involve connecting carriers, the airline will rebook affected passengers to their destination at no additional cost. Airline-managed hotel accommodation and extended-stay assistance are also part of the package for a range of disruption scenarios.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the move was driven by customer feedback and a clear gap in the market. Together with Travel Guard, he noted, the airline set out to build a product that is both comprehensive and reassuring across a wider range of real-world situations.
Russel Antonio, Head of Global Business and Partnerships at Travel Guard, described the product as setting a new benchmark in the industry, reflecting what today's travellers actually need.
Comprehensive Travel Cover is currently available for purchase across 27 markets, including the UAE, UK, Germany, Singapore, Canada, South Africa and several European countries.
The offering marks a significant shift in how airlines can take ownership of the end-to-end travel experience, moving beyond the flight itself into the broader journey.
