ENOC Group and Dubai Municipality have signed an agreement to explore turning used cooking oil collected across the emirate into biodiesel, a move aimed at strengthening Dubai’s circular economy.
The agreement was signed by Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi, Deputy Managing Director of Commercial and Retail at ENOC Group, and Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality. Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Group CEO of ENOC Group, witnessed the signing during ENOC’s participation at WETEX 2026.
The two sides will explore a system to collect used cooking oil from restaurants, businesses and households for conversion at ENOC’s Jebel Ali plant. Dubai Municipality will coordinate and oversee recovery efforts to prevent improper disposal, while ENOC will bring its fuel production and supply expertise.
The collaboration aligns with the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031 and aims to keep value within the economy while encouraging more sustainable disposal practices.
Al Falasi said turning waste into fuel can expand access to cleaner energy while strengthening local production and supporting a lower-carbon economy. Al Marzouqi said the initiative would help maximise resource recovery, reduce waste and support Dubai’s clean energy transition.
ENOC introduced Biodiesel5 to the UAE market in 2017 and has since widened its biodiesel offering for customers in transport, logistics and construction. It has also invested in local production at Jebel Ali.
At WETEX 2026, the Group is showcasing a biodiesel delivery truck and a COBUS hydrogen bus, while engaging government entities, industry partners and customers on wider adoption of alternative fuels.
