The Federal Tax Authority has expanded its Digital Tourist VAT Refund System across the UAE, with more retailers joining the platform and additional self-service kiosks installed during the first half of 2026.
The latest figures reflect the Authority's continued investment in digital tax services aimed at improving the visitor experience and supporting the country's tourism sector.
By the end of June 2026, around 19,340 retail outlets were electronically connected to the system, marking a 5.9 per cent increase from 18,260 outlets a year earlier. During the first six months of the year, 449 retailers joined the platform, bringing the total number of newly connected outlets over the past two and a half years to 2,983.
The network of self-service VAT refund kiosks also expanded to 100 locations, up from 93 at the end of June 2025. The kiosks, installed at airports, hotels and shopping centres, allow tourists to complete their refund claims quickly before departing the UAE.
FTA Director General Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mulla said the Authority remains focused on enhancing the fully digital system by simplifying retailer registration and improving service efficiency. He added that tourists can complete transactions, receive digital invoices and submit refund requests within minutes through the platform or at self-service kiosks.
The Authority said travellers from India, Russia, Turkey, China and the United States accounted for the largest share of beneficiaries this year.
Recent upgrades also include the integration of the Noon e-commerce platform, enabling eligible tourists to claim VAT refunds on online purchases made within the UAE. In addition, Planet's upgraded mobile application now supports 12 languages and incorporates the official UAE dirham symbol, further improving accessibility for international visitors.
