Garmin has secured naming rights to a Dubai Metro Red Line station on Sheikh Zayed Road, making it the first global partner in the emirate’s station naming programme.
The station, formerly known as Onpassive Station, is now called Garmin Station.
Mada Media, which manages out-of-home advertising in Dubai under a concession agreement with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), held a ceremony to mark the deal. Hypermedia, which attracts investors for naming rights across the Red and Green Lines, also played a part in the agreement.
Abdul Muhsen Kalbat, CEO of the RTA’s Rail Agency, said the agreement reflects Dubai’s drive to maximise the value of its strategic assets and strengthens its position as a destination for global brands.
Mansoor Al Sabahi, CEO of Mada Media, said brands are chosen after detailed assessments of the station, its surroundings and its users. Values also matter, and he said Garmin’s focus on movement and physical activity fits the emirate’s principles.
The numbers help explain the appeal. The station welcomed about 8.5 million passengers in 2025, while more than 33 million people passed by brand displays in the surrounding area.
Al Sabahi said the deal opens a new phase for naming rights on the Blue Line, which is due to open on September 9, 2029 and will serve an area expected to have 1 million residents by 2040.
Tim Spurling, General Manager of Garmin for Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, said the milestone reflects the company’s commitment to the UAE market.
