The Gulf Cooperation Council and Italy have formalized a new chapter in their partnership, signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening political dialogue and joint action across multiple sectors of shared interest.

The agreement was signed in Rome between GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi and Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The signing ceremony marked a significant step in formalizing cooperation frameworks between the two sides.

Albudaiwi said the memorandum is designed to bolster cooperation and coordination mechanisms between the GCC General Secretariat and Italy, while expanding partnership into new areas of mutual benefit. He noted that the agreement would help support political dialogue, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and establish structured mechanisms for joint action going forward.

He added that relations between GCC member states and Italy have shown steady progress across various fields, a trend he attributed to longstanding ties and shared interests between the two sides. Both parties, he said, remain committed to elevating these relations further to serve common goals and strengthen regional security, stability, and development.

Following the signing, officials from both sides expressed hope that the memorandum would open new avenues for collaboration and reinforce ongoing communication and coordination. They emphasized that the agreement reflects a shared ambition to build deeper cooperation and pursue mutual prosperity in the years ahead.

The memorandum adds to a growing list of diplomatic engagements between the GCC and European partners, as Gulf states continue to broaden their international partnerships beyond traditional economic ties. Analysts view such agreements as part of a wider push by GCC nations to position themselves as active players in global diplomacy while strengthening ties with key European economies like Italy.
