The General Women's Union (GWU) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have signed a cooperation agreement in Abu Dhabi to deepen international partnerships and advance sustainable development, with a focus on women's empowerment and safer communities.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Anti-Narcotics Authority. Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the GWU, signed on behalf of the union, while Monica Juma, Executive Director of UNODC, represented the United Nations.

Al Suwaidi said the agreement reflects the UAE's commitment to building effective partnerships with the UN and developing innovative ways to serve communities. She described the understanding as a key foundation for pooling expertise and exchanging technical and field-based perspectives, which she said would help improve community safety and widen the reach of prevention and protection efforts.

The agreement sets out an institutional framework for unifying joint efforts and shared visions, advancing development and humanitarian initiatives, and reinforcing the position of Emirati women as an inspiring global model of influence. It also aims to strengthen consultation and coordination between the two sides in support of women's empowerment and the creation of more aware communities.

Both parties said the deal reflects a shared commitment to expanding humanitarian and development work and offering an integrated model that supports sustainable quality of life. It also backs efforts to enhance women's role in shaping the future and in decision-making at regional and international levels.
