Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, honoured the winners of the 25th edition of Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development organised by Dubai Municipality and UN-HABITAT.

The award ceremony was held at the World Government Summit 2022.

Sheikh Maktoum said the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development is a prime example of Dubai and the UAE’s commitment to enhancing sustainable development, quality of life and environmental preservation. The country seeks to strengthen international collaboration to develop creative sustainable development plans centred around human wellbeing. The UAE is committed to implementing international best practices in environmental conservation, he added.

Sheikh Maktoum congratulated the winners of the Award in the presence of thought leaders and decision makers. Winners of this edition of the award included the Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park Project from Thailand in the category of Urban Regeneration and Public Spaces. In the category of Construction of Sustainable, Innovative and Smart Buildings, Water WISE Buildings and Industries project in Singapore won the award. Less Fish Loss Supporting Better Nutrition through Innovative Partnership from Indonesia was named the winner in the Sustaining Urban Food Systems Category. Treedom project from Italy won in the category of Addressing Climate Change and Reducing Pollution, while India’s URBGOV project won in the category of Urban Infrastructure Planning and Management.

On this occasion, the Director-General of Dubai Municipality, Dawood Abdul Rahman Al Hajri, said the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is keen to develop innovative solutions for development challenges and securing a bright future for upcoming generations.

He also said the latest edition of the Award received 2,950 entries from 148 nations, out of which 10 entries where shortlisted for the final round by the judging committee that featured 27 eminent experts.

The support of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum played an instrumental role in the Award’s development into one of the leading award programmes in its domain, Al Hajri said.

The Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development seeks to encourage, recognise and enhance awareness of outstanding achievements in improving the quality of life in urban and rural settlements. The trophy for the Award is made in the shape of a wind-tower, known as "Barjil" in Arabic. The "Barjil" was used as an air cooler and air purifier in traditional Arabic architecture before air-conditioners were invented.
