Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the general calendar of sporting events in Dubai for the 2026-27 season, directing that the hundreds of tournaments held each year be promoted widely to draw more fans and enthusiasts.

The President of the UAE Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) gave the approval during a meeting of the council's Board of Directors. He said greater visibility would help visitors enjoy world-class sporting experiences featuring champions from many disciplines throughout the year.

The board reviewed projects launched under the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, which brings together talent, clubs, community, events, infrastructure, information and investment to support sustainable growth in the sector.

Sheikh Mansoor praised the work of sports clubs and federations in helping athletes raise their performance at local, regional and continental levels. He described cooperation between these bodies as a vital pillar of the sector's development and said the next stage calls for stronger efforts to help talented athletes reach the podium.

Preparations for the second World Sports Summit were also discussed. The event takes place on December 28 and 29 under the slogan Uniting the World Through Sports, and will bring together sporting icons, leaders, decision-makers and representatives of global sports organisations.

Board members were briefed on the 7th Dubai School Games, which has seen strong growth. This edition features 23,000 students from 210 schools competing across 31 tournaments. The DSC said the event has helped uncover young talent that has progressed to clubs and national teams.

The meeting also reviewed a report from the Basketball Sector Development Committee, which aims to increase the number of players, academies and competitions in Dubai throughout the year.
