Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new car called the Concept CLA Class at IAA Mobility 2023 in Germany. It gives us a sneak peek at the upcoming line of cars that are really important for the brand. These cars are like the gateway to the Mercedes-Benz world.
This car is a part of Mercedes-Benz's plan for the future. They want to make more electric and digital cars. The Concept CLA Class is built on a new platform called the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA). It looks really stylish and performs well.
Inside the car, they've focused on making it super comfy and convenient for people in a future where cars are electric and digital. They want your experience inside the car to be top-notch.
"The Concept CLA Class is the forerunner for an entirely new all-electric segment of entry-level vehicles at Mercedes-Benz. The range will comprise a total of four new models – a four-door coupe, a shooting brake and two stunning SUVs – each with significantly elevated product substance. This new model family is inspired by a generation of car buyers who want that unmistakable Mercedes-Benz feel, with more features, even greater comfort and safety and the most advanced technology. They also seek a sustainable choice that is a cut above the rest. This hypermiler is the one-liter car of the electric age, with a range of more than 750 kilometers (466 miles) in the WLTP and energy consumption of just 12 kWh/100 km (5.2 mi/kWh). Based on the MMA platform, it provides an insight into the first complete family of Mercedes-Benz electric cars developed from scratch to put our Ambition 2039 on the road, whereby we aim to achieve net carbon neutrality along the entire value chain in our fleet of new vehicles in 2039."

Mercedes-Benz is really good at making technology that's leading the way. They made something called the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, and it's built mainly for electric cars. This platform is going to be used for a bunch of different cars with different shapes and sizes, like a family of cars. It's a big part of Mercedes-Benz's plan to make more electric cars quickly.
One of the cool things about the MMA platform is that it's designed with safety in mind. They want to make sure that the people in these cars are safe, so they're using their "real-life safety" philosophy, which is all about making sure the cars are super safe.
They're also working on a new system called "MB.OS" which is going to make the inside of the car really easy to use and fun. It's going to have a big screen that shows you cool graphics in real-time, like a high-tech video game.
And, they're trying to make the car as environmentally friendly as possible. They're using materials that don't hurt the Earth too much, like steel which doesn't cause a lot of pollution, and leather which is made in a way that's better for the environment. The car is designed to be stylish and fun for people all around the world who want a cool car.
"The technology that provides the foundation for the Concept CLA Class represents an entirely new approach for Mercedes-Benz and incorporates many learnings from our groundbreaking VISION EQXX technology program. For instance, our engineers have maximized efficiency by driving down losses in its 800 V electric-drive system. It also features innovative battery cell chemistry as well as a high level of integration enabling excellent energy density. I am certain that our MMA platform will enable us to offer our customers in this market segment a class-defining combination of performance, sustainability, safety, and comfort paired with an outstanding digital experience."
