OpenAI has unveiled a mobile version of its Codex coding tool, giving users the ability to monitor and manage development workflows remotely from their smartphones.
The update, currently in preview, is available across all ChatGPT subscription tiers on both iOS and Android. It allows users to instantly preview Codex environments from any device running the application.
According to OpenAI, the feature goes well beyond basic remote task control. Users can manage entire workflows from their phones, review outputs, approve commands, switch models and initiate new tasks, making it a more comprehensive mobile development companion than a simple remote execution tool.
The app keeps users informed through real-time screenshots, terminal outputs, code differences, test results and approval requests. Importantly, files, credentials, permissions and local tools remain stored on the connected device handling the work, keeping sensitive data off the mobile interface.
Codex was first integrated into ChatGPT nearly a year ago. This mobile expansion marks a significant step in OpenAI's push to make AI-assisted coding more accessible and flexible for developers on the move.
