Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has awarded the contract for the Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project, a 12 km strategic route valued at AED2 billion that will reshape connectivity across the emirate.

The corridor will link Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to Emirates Road, forming an integrated east-west traffic route. Construction includes seven bridges spanning 2,300 metres and eight tunnels covering 900 metres, along with multi-level free-flow interchanges and loop ramps.

Once complete, the corridor is expected to carry around 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and handle more than 130,000 trips daily. Travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road will fall from 33 minutes to 15 minutes, a 54 percent cut. The project is due for completion by the end of 2028 and will serve roughly 650,000 residents and visitors, including communities such as Nad Al Sheba, Al Barari, Dubai Hills and Global Village.

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, said the project reflects Dubai's proactive approach to building infrastructure ahead of demand. He noted the corridor would ease pressure on busy routes including Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, while supporting the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The works also include widening Latifa bint Hamdan Street to four lanes in each direction, redeveloping sections of Al Meydan Street, and adding 12.5 km of cycling tracks connecting Al Qudra to Jumeirah.

The project builds on RTA's earlier development of the western section of Latifa bint Hamdan Street, which had already cut travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road from 12 minutes to four.
