Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim Properties, has opened a new 300-metre single-lane bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, offering motorists direct access from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to Mall of the Emirates car parks.

The infrastructure upgrade is expected to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour and significantly reduce travel times.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, said the project is part of ongoing efforts to improve road network efficiency around key developments.

“The bridge reduces travel time from 10 minutes to just one minute, while enhancing traffic flow and road safety in surrounding areas,”

he explained.

The project included widening the southbound ramp at Umm Suqeim junction, upgrading the junction itself, and enhancing 2.5 km of surrounding roads. Six at-grade signalised intersections were developed, the nearby bus station modified, and the road adjacent to the Kempinski Hotel converted from one-way to two-way traffic. Pedestrian and cycling tracks were improved, alongside road paving, lighting, drainage, and landscaping upgrades.

Looking ahead, RTA will launch the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project this year, covering 6 km from Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road. The plan includes six upgraded junctions, four bridges, two tunnels spanning 3,450 metres, additional lanes, and at-grade enhancements to ease congestion and support smoother traffic flow across major routes.

Al Tayer emphasized that these projects aim to ensure seamless mobility for residents and visitors, while supporting Dubai’s broader urban and transport development goals.
