Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has renewed its strategic partnership with the University of Birmingham Dubai, reinforcing a collaboration first established in 2019.

The extended agreement outlines a two-year roadmap (2025–2026) covering nine key initiatives aimed at accelerating innovation in transport technologies.

The partnership will focus on research and development, building human capital, and enhancing future capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and integrated mobility. Plans include the development of virtual research centres, specialised academic programmes, competency assessments, and studies on next-generation mobility systems.

Muna Al Osaimi, CEO of RTA’s Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, said the partnership reflects RTA’s long-term vision for transport innovation.

“It equips the next generation of engineers and researchers with skills to address today’s transport challenges while driving global innovation,”

she noted. She also highlighted the success of the Transportation Research and Innovation Pavilion (TRIP), launched in 2023, which has supported over 350 employee trainings, 25 start-ups, and 50 events to date.

TRIP continues to play a central role in promoting youth-led innovation, research in infrastructure and sustainability, and collaboration between academia and industry.

Professor Yusra Mouzughi, Provost of the University of Birmingham Dubai, said the renewed collaboration underscores the importance of partnerships in shaping the future of mobility.

“Together, we’re supporting RTA’s goals for sustainable, safe, and smart transport through advanced education and research in autonomous systems, AI, and robotics,”

she added.

The renewed partnership strengthens Dubai’s position as a regional leader in future mobility and reflects a shared commitment to building smarter, safer, and more sustainable transport solutions.
