Dubai and Ohio Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Mass Transit Solutions

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), met with a delegation from Ohio, USA, led by Blake Ethridge, Chairman of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA).

The meeting aimed to bolster relations and collaboration between the RTA and SORTA in mass transport, integrated mobility applications, connected systems, and autonomous transport.

Al Tayer showcased RTA's best practices in public transport and sustainable systems, highlighting Dubai's efforts to expand its mobility services. The Ohio delegation expressed interest in partnering with the RTA to support both regions' visions of becoming international hubs for entrepreneurship and tourism, enhancing their status as top global living destinations.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to solidify this partnership. Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, signed on behalf of RTA, while Darryl Healy, CEO and General Manager, signed for SORTA. The MoU aims to enhance cooperation, strategic partnerships, and deliver outstanding public transport services, benefiting the economic and social sectors in both regions.

The agreement includes exchanging technical knowledge and expertise, improving customer service, and maintaining ongoing communication. Future collaboration will focus on transport technology, system integration, private sector engagement, and the use of modern software and planning methods.

Al Tayer emphasized the strategic partnership aligns with RTA's vision of seamless and sustainable mobility, highlighting opportunities in electric and hydrogen buses, rapid transit, and bus priority systems.

Ethridge noted the partnership marks a new era in global transit collaborations, contributing to significant ridership growth and infrastructure investment in Ohio.
