As the summer season approaches, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is calling on motorists to prioritize the maintenance and inspection of their vehicles. With the expected increase in road travel during this period, the RTA emphasizes that well-maintained vehicles are crucial for ensuring road safety and minimizing the risk of traffic accidents due to mechanical failures.
Key Areas for Inspection
The RTA advises drivers to conduct thorough checks on several critical aspects of their vehicles. These include:
- Tyres: Inspect for proper inflation, tread wear, and damage.
- Brakes: Ensure they are functioning effectively without unusual noises or delays.
- Oils and Fluids: Check engine oil, brake fluid, cooling fluids, and windshield washer fluid levels.
- Cooling Systems: Verify the efficiency of the radiator and air conditioning systems.
- Batteries: Test for charge and inspect for corrosion or leaks.
- Lights and Wipers: Ensure all lights are operational and wipers are in good condition.
- Leaks: Look for any signs of oil or water leaks.
Summer Awareness Campaigns
To bolster these efforts, the RTA has launched an extensive awareness campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior under the "Safe Summer" initiative. This campaign aims to educate the public about the necessity of regular vehicle maintenance, especially as temperatures rise. The initiative includes disseminating informative messages through social media platforms and displaying them at various customer service centers, driving institutes, car dealerships, and malls.
Bader Al Siri, Executive Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the importance of these proactive measures.
"Regular vehicle inspections are not only a legal requirement during ownership renewal but should also be an ongoing responsibility for all drivers. Proper maintenance protects not only the driver and passengers but all road users,"
he stated.
A Comprehensive Approach to Traffic Safety
Al Siri explained that Dubai's traffic safety strategy is built on four foundational pillars: traffic enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, traffic awareness, and management of vehicle movements. The RTA’s focus on vehicle maintenance is a critical component of this strategy, aimed at reducing accident rates and enhancing overall road safety.
Broadcasting Safety Messages
The RTA has developed a detailed plan to broadcast safety messages to drivers throughout the summer. These messages are part of a broader strategy to ensure that vehicle safety remains a priority for all motorists in Dubai.
"We are leveraging social media and our partners’ customer service centers to ensure these important messages reach as many people as possible,"
added Al Siri.
The RTA's initiatives reflect its commitment to maintaining high safety standards on Dubai’s roads, particularly during the high-traffic summer months. By encouraging regular vehicle maintenance, the RTA aims to reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the safety of all road users.
