Saudi Fatwa Council Prohibits Hajj Without an Official Permit
For those planning to perform Hajj this season, a new fatwa prohibits performing the holy pilgrimage without an official permit. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that the Council of Senior Scholars issued this fatwa, urging pilgrims to strictly follow the regulations and guidelines.
The decision aims to enhance the safety, security, and organization of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors. The Council of Senior Scholars, along with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, and the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, evaluated the risks associated with unpermitted Hajj activities.
The mandate for a Hajj permit is deeply anchored in Islamic law and is essential for maintaining order during the pilgrimage. This requirement helps manage the number of pilgrims effectively, preventing overcrowding and potential stampedes and ensures that services are delivered seamlessly as mandated by Sharia.
According to Islamic principles and the council, obtaining a Hajj permit is a legal and religious obligation. Compliance not only avoids legal issues but is also seen as an act of faith and obedience, for which pilgrims are believed to receive divine rewards.
Performing Hajj without a permit compromises personal safety and that of others, posing a substantial risk to all participants. The Council emphasizes that the sacred journey of Hajj should be approached with reverence and respect, honoring the sanctity of the associated rituals and holy sites.
