Trakhees, the Department of Planning and Development operating under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, completed more than 16,000 field safety inspections across its jurisdiction in 2025, recording a compliance rate of 94.06% across industrial, commercial, and public health establishments.

The Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) Department carried out 16,021 field inspection visits alongside 15,627 document review and verification tasks throughout the year. Non-compliant establishments, accounting for 5.94% of those inspected, received violation notices with defined timeframes to implement corrective measures under the approved regulatory framework.

The inspection programme spanned a broad range of sectors including industrial manufacturing, chemical production and storage, logistics and warehousing, fuel and energy facilities, hospitality, retail, healthcare, waste management, and labour accommodations. Assessments covered equipment safety and certification, emergency preparedness, worker protection, operational risk controls, and environmental health compliance.

CEO Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul said the results reflect the scale of oversight the department maintains and its commitment to a safe, compliant business environment. He added that Trakhees is focused on building effective partnerships with operators across sectors to promote a culture of safety and prevent accidents before they occur.

The programme forms part of Trakhees' broader regulatory strategy, which combines periodic inspections, certifications, permits, and enforcement to uphold operational standards across all entities within its jurisdiction.

Authorities say the initiative supports the sustainability of business operations within the free zone ecosystem while reinforcing protections for workers, surrounding communities, and the public at large.

Trakhees has indicated it will continue to intensify field visits and upgrade assessment tools in line with global best practices, strengthening readiness across all regulated establishments.
