As airfares and travel package prices drop significantly, 2025 is set to be an exciting year for budget-conscious travelers.

A recent study by Skyscanner reveals that cities like Bucharest (Romania), Trabzon (Turkiye), and Beijing (China) will see the steepest reductions in air travel costs, with expected price drops of 35%, 31%, and 23%, respectively.

Bucharest, with its captivating blend of historic charm and contemporary flair, is becoming more accessible thanks to increased flight routes and growing airline competition. Meanwhile, Trabzon entices travelers with its breathtaking natural beauty and rich heritage, benefitting from expanded flight options that have fueled interest in the region. Beijing, now more affordable, invites visitors to explore iconic sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, driven by new airline routes and heightened market competition.

The study highlights other affordable destinations for 2025, including:

  • Tokyo (Japan)
  • Baku (Azerbaijan)
  • Seoul (South Korea)
  • Seattle (USA)
  • Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
  • Istanbul (Turkiye)
  • Cape Town (South Africa)

Ayoub El Mamoun, a GCC travel expert at Skyscanner, attributes these price reductions to two key factors: the introduction of new routes that align supply with demand and increasing competition among airlines and travel agents, resulting in more attractive travel packages. For instance, Saudi Arabia has opened six new routes in the past four years, enhancing travel accessibility.

Post-Covid-19, UAE and foreign airlines have aggressively expanded their networks, capitalizing on the strong recovery in travel demand as pandemic restrictions ease. Although some airlines face challenges with delays from Boeing, the overall aviation sector continues to grow.

Despite economic uncertainties, UAE residents remain committed to travel. Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2025 study indicates that 55% of travelers plan to increase their spending on flights, 44% on accommodation, and 28% on car rentals in 2025. When selecting travel destinations, UAE residents prioritize the costs associated with hotels, flights, and visas. Additionally, many travelers express a willingness to invest in flight comfort, valuing quality food, airport lounge access, and seat selection during their journeys.
