The UAE has hosted its first-ever BRICS event, marking a significant step in the country’s expanding role on the global economic stage.

Held from May 5–6 in Abu Dhabi, the BRICS Finance Track Working Group Taskforce on Public-Private Partnership and Infrastructure brought together senior officials, global finance experts, and private sector leaders to advance discussions on innovative infrastructure financing.

Organised by the Ministry of Finance, the event featured a high-level seminar titled “A New Era of Growth: Reimagining Infrastructure Financing in BRICS Countries”. Participants explored new mechanisms to fund infrastructure projects and expand public-private partnerships, with a strong focus on sustainable development and economic transformation.

Younis Haji AlKhoori, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to fostering flexible, innovative financing models that drive strategic projects in key sectors such as healthcare, education, clean energy, and transport. He emphasized the importance of public-private cooperation in meeting the dynamic demands of future economies.

The event also included a visit to Masdar City, where the delegation was briefed on major PPP initiatives in energy, sustainability, and mobility. Ahmed Baghoum, CEO of Masdar City, said the visit reflected global recognition of the UAE’s leadership in sustainable urban development and infrastructure innovation.

Ambassador Tatiana Rosito, speaking on behalf of Brazil’s BRICS Presidency, praised the UAE’s support and expressed confidence in stronger multilateral ties among BRICS nations through such collaborative platforms.

The seminar’s sessions delved into financing models for social infrastructure, blended finance for climate-resilient projects, and strategies to reduce investment risks. The discussions underscored the need for cross-border cooperation and forward-thinking solutions to address today’s infrastructure challenges.

With this milestone event, the UAE reaffirms its role as a trusted partner in shaping the future of global infrastructure and economic resilience.
