The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has introduced a new national award to recognise institutions, individuals and partners advancing higher education and scientific research across the country.
The UAE Award in Higher Education was launched under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Sheikh Abdullah said investment in people remains central to the nation's future vision and described higher education as a key driver in building a competitive knowledge based economy. He noted that the award aims to encourage transformative innovation in teaching and research as the country works to strengthen its academic institutions and support national talent.
The award is structured around four main categories. Leading Universities and Higher and Vocational Education Institutions honours academic excellence among universities and technical training bodies. Transformative Higher Education Projects recognises initiatives that support sustainable development and future readiness. Higher Education Pioneers celebrates individual achievements in research, education and entrepreneurship. Influential Higher Education Partners acknowledges the contributions of strategic partners and international universities to national education goals.
Entries will be judged on institutional outcomes, quality of learning and employment results, economic and social impact and the adoption of emerging technologies. Winners will receive financial prizes along with honorary recognition for their contributions to the sector.
Applications for the inaugural cycle will open from July to September 2026, followed by evaluation and judging. Winners are expected to be announced in the fourth quarter of 2026.
