UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure collaborates with DNV to establish Maritime Decarbonisation Centre
The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI) has introduced the "UAE Maritime Decarbonisation Centre," a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with DNV.
The Centre is the first of its kind in the MENA region and the fourth globally, signaling a significant milestone for maritime decarbonisation efforts in the Middle East and North Africa. The signing ceremony for the partnership took place at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) headquarters in London, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders.
The UAE Maritime Decarbonisation Centre aims to drive research, innovation, and collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices, technologies, and policies in the maritime sector. It aligns with the UAE's sustainability goals outlined in the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, reinforcing the nation's commitment to addressing climate change and promoting sustainability in the maritime industry.
The Centre will focus on reducing CO2 emissions in the maritime industry through research, development, and implementation of innovative technologies and strategies. It will conduct joint-industry projects, incubator and accelerator programs, and talent development initiatives, while serving as a knowledge hub by publishing research and information.
This initiative complements the UAE's preparations for hosting COP28, demonstrating the country's dedication to sustainable innovation and global collaboration. The UAE Maritime Decarbonisation Centre will play a pivotal role in positioning the UAE as a hub for sustainable maritime practices during COP28.
By collaborating with DNV, the UAE aims to leverage their expertise and global network to accelerate decarbonisation efforts in the maritime sector. The partnership will contribute to the UAE's vision of becoming a global leader in sustainable maritime practices and driving the transition to a greener future.
