The UAE has secured the top position in the Arab world in the TIMSS 2023 International Report, which evaluates student progress in mathematics and science for grades four and eight.

Conducted every four years, TIMSS 2023 saw the participation of over 64 countries worldwide.

The launch of the TIMSS 2023 International Report took place on December 4 at Dubai’s Museum of the Future, in collaboration with the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Centre at Boston College, and the UAE Ministry of Education. The event, streamed live, showcased findings and insights crucial for educational policy and practices.

Minister of Education Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri lauded the students’ exceptional achievements, noting the UAE's substantial efforts to enhance performance in global and standardised assessments.

“These results highlight the UAE's commitment to advancing its educational system and aligning with international benchmarks,”

she said.

The UAE's 2023 performance marked a significant improvement from 2019, with fourth-grade students achieving 17-point and 22-point increases in mathematics and science, respectively. Eighth-grade students also excelled, with gains of 15 points in mathematics and 14 points in science.

The TIMSS 2023 report underscored global trends, including gender disparities in fourth-grade mathematics and the impact of home resources on student achievement. The findings reaffirm the role of international assessments like TIMSS in shaping educational strategies globally.

TIMSS and PIRLS, administered by the IEA, continue to provide valuable insights into student achievement trends in mathematics, science, and reading, offering critical data for educational advancements worldwide.
