UAE Unemployment Insurance Scheme: Here's How You Can Renew Your ILOE Policy to Avoid Fines

The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) launched the Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) insurance scheme in January 2023.

This initiative aims to provide financial support to national and expatriate employees in both the public and private sectors, including those working in Freezones. Here’s a detailed guide on eligibility, subscription, renewal, and claiming the ILOE insurance policy.

Eligibility for Job Loss Payment

Residents can qualify for the job loss payment if they meet the following criteria:

  • They have been employed and subscribed to the insurance program for at least 12 months.
  • They have not been terminated for disciplinary reasons or due to resignation.

Mandatory Subscription

Subscribing to the UAE’s ILOE insurance scheme is mandatory for all government and private sector employees. This requirement extends to Freezone workers as well. Employees who do not subscribe or renew their ILOE insurance policy face a fine of AED 400.

Renewal Process

The renewal of the ILOE insurance policy is straightforward. Follow these steps to renew your policy:

  1. Visit the Official ILOE Insurance Website:
  2. Initiate Renewal: Click on the red 'Subscribe/Renew Here' button.
  3. Select Your Category: Choose from Private Sector, Federal Government Employee (Public Sector), or Non-Registered in MOHRE (Freezone workers).
  4. Confirm Selection: Click the 'Confirm' button.
  5. Sign In: Use either an OTP sent to your mobile number or your registered user login credentials.
  6. Review and Renew: Confirm your details, choose the policy term, and proceed to the payment tab.

If you encounter any issues during the renewal process, ILOE customer care is available at 600599555.

Categories and Costs

The ILOE insurance scheme is divided into two categories based on the employee's basic salary:

  • Category A: Employees with a basic salary of AED 16,000 or less per month. The insurance cost is AED 5 per month or AED 60 annually.
  • Category B: Employees with a basic salary of more than AED 16,000 per month. The insurance cost is AED 10 per month or AED 120 annually.

Claiming the Policy

If an employee is terminated, they can claim the insurance policy by submitting the claim within 30 days of unemployment through the following channels:

  • The insurance pool’s e-portal
  • Smart application
  • ILOE call centre

Compensation is paid within two weeks from the claim date and is capped at a maximum of three months per claim.

Compensation Benefits

The monthly compensation is 60% of the average basic salary over the most recent six months before the loss of employment. The maximum monthly benefits are:

  • Category A: Up to AED 10,000 per month
  • Category B: Up to AED 20,000 per month

The compensation is provided for up to three consecutive months per claim.
