UAEREP Unveils Key Initiatives for Rain Enhancement Science
The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) outlined its significant milestones and forward-looking agenda during a press conference held today at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) headquarters.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the event spotlighted the program’s commitment to advancing global water security through pioneering research and innovation.
In January 2025, UAEREP will celebrate its 10th anniversary, coinciding with the seventh International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) from January 28 to 30 in Abu Dhabi. The forum will convene global experts to discuss rain enhancement and water security, emphasizing cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, hybrid AI-physics models, and autonomous UAV technology. Alya Al Mazroui, Director of UAEREP, emphasized the significance of 2025, saying,
“As we approach a decade of supporting rain enhancement research, we aim to bridge research with real-world applications.”
UAEREP’s sixth global grant cycle will also launch in January, offering up to $1.5 million per project for innovative rain enhancement research. Five priority areas, including optimized seeding materials and advanced data systems, reflect the UAE's focus on sustainable solutions to address water scarcity.
Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, NCM Director General and President of the World Meteorological Organization, highlighted the UAE's role in water security, stating,
“Through UAEREP, we are driving advancements in AI-driven technologies that align with global priorities.”
The program also announced upcoming engagements, including participation at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) annual meeting in December and COP29 in Baku, underscoring its commitment to international collaboration in climate resilience and water sustainability.
