The 12th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) begins in Dubai on Wednesday, bringing together global voices to explore how to accelerate the shift to a sustainable economy that has passed US$5 trillion in annual value and is projected to exceed US$7 trillion by 2030.

Held on October 21 and 22 under the theme “From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy”, the summit is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

More than 3,300 attendees and over 80 international speakers will take part in discussions across four pillars: Energy Technology and Infrastructure, Business Strategy and Transition, Water and Food Security, and Finance. Artificial intelligence, governance, and supply chains and circular economy run through all of them as cross-cutting themes.

The World Economic Forum notes that companies earning revenue from green markets are seeing it grow twice as fast as revenue from conventional lines. The cost of solar PV technology and lithium batteries has fallen by around 90 percent since 2010.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of DEWA, said the priority is to scale solutions and speed up delivery. He pointed to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is set to exceed 8,000MW by 2030, up from 3,860MW today.

Operational renewable capacity in the Middle East and North Africa reached 43.7GW by the end of 2025, with a pipeline of around 202GW. Global climate finance has passed US$2 trillion, yet at least US$6.3 trillion in annual investment is needed until 2030.
