The 12th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will bring policymakers, financiers and business leaders to Dubai on October 21 and 22, with a focus on turning green economy success into scale.
Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the event is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO). It takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme “From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy”.
The programme rests on four pillars: Energy Technology and Infrastructure, Business Strategy and Transition, Water and Food Security, and Finance. Artificial intelligence, governance and system enablers run through all of them. The business strategy pillar looks at how leading companies build green growth into their core plans, from capturing valuation premiums to adapting to carbon taxes, emissions trading systems and disclosure rules.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGEO, said the green economy has passed US$5 trillion in annual value and is growing at twice the rate of conventional industries. He noted that many organisations still treat sustainability as a cost centre rather than a growth driver.
Speakers echoed the focus on finance, technology and collaboration. Syed Adeel Abbas of the World Bank pointed to growing interest in green bonds as a way to mobilise private capital. Yousif Lootah of Lootah Biofuels spoke of an intelligent circular economy powered by robotics, AI and blockchain. Jessica Robinson of Solve Strategies plans to present cases from Africa and the Gulf showing climate projects already delivering measurable returns.
Contributions also came from Nick Falkowski of Meaningful Planet, Valerio Capizzi of ING Bank, Priya Sarma of Unilever Beauty & Wellbeing and Yohaan Cama of Gems Education.
