Entries are now open for the World Triathlon Women’s Cup Dubai, which comes to Al Mamzar Beach Park on Sunday, December 6, with races for women of all abilities, from first-time triathletes to elite international athletes.

The second World Triathlon Women’s Cup held anywhere in the world, it is the only event of its kind dedicated entirely to women. Elite athletes and amateurs will race at the same venue on the same day. It is organised by Dubai Sports Council in partnership with World Triathlon and in collaboration with the UAE Triathlon Federation.

The Super Sprint is built to make a first triathlon achievable, with a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run. Those seeking a bigger challenge can enter the Sprint, which covers a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. Both are open to females aged 18 and over, and can be raced individually or as a relay team of up to three, so anyone nervous about the swim can hand that leg to a teammate.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, said the event is meant to be a lasting platform for women’s sport. He said it aims to inspire more women and girls to take part, give women athletes the visibility they deserve as role models and build confidence that carries into every part of life, including leadership.

Debbie Alexander, Vice President of World Triathlon, said events where first-time triathletes can race at the same venue as the elites make the sport special. She thanked Dubai Sports Council for its commitment to women’s triathlon.

Emirati women will also race for their own podium. A separate competition will recognise the top three Emirati finishers in both the individual and team categories.
