The Arab Reading Challenge, an initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, stands as the largest cultural initiative of its kind, aimed at cultivating a reading culture among Arab students.
The initiative emphasizes the importance of reading and aims to nurture a creative, innovative generation that excels across various fields.
Emirati writer Gaith Al Hosani praised the initiative, noting,
"The Arab Reading Challenge, following the intellectual vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, promotes free reading as a tool for cultural connection and intellectual development."
He highlighted that the initiative fosters cultural openness and shapes the intellectual growth of younger generations.
Students participating in the challenge also shared their insights. Areej Samir Ashmawi, a UAE-based student, expressed that the challenge "nurtures the mind and instills confidence," helping students develop both personal and intellectual skills. Turkey Abdullah Al-Halabi from Yemen emphasized the initiative's role in promoting the Arabic language among youth.
Sulaiman Khamis Al-Awali, the champion of the People of Determination category in the UAE, spoke about the transformative power of reading, stating,
"Reading opens vast doors of knowledge and enables People of Determination to engage deeply in society."
The challenge extends beyond the Arab world, with participants from 28 non-Arab countries. Ikram, an Algerian representing Russia, emphasized the importance of the challenge in preserving cultural identity, stating it "raises awareness of the need to take pride in our language and culture."
This initiative plays a vital role in promoting reading, fostering national pride, and enhancing cultural identity among Arab youth.
