Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Municipality have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project, handing responsibility for managing and operating the project’s facilities to the municipality.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, and HE Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both sides. The ceremony took place during the 28th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2026), which DEWA is organising from October 20 to 22 at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Under the agreement, Dubai Municipality takes over the management, operation, maintenance and development of the existing buildings, facilities and assets at Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls. The MoU also covers the leasing of facilities and shops, sets out the responsibilities of each party and provides for oversight of leased properties and tenants in line with applicable regulations.
The agreement aims to support the long-term sustainability of the project’s assets and maximise their benefits for Hatta’s residents and visitors.
Al Tayer said DEWA is guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote sustainable development in Hatta and strengthen its position as a tourism and investment destination while preserving its natural environment and heritage.
He said the agreement reflects the integration of roles between the two entities. Since the project’s launch, he added, DEWA has sought to ensure it goes beyond a tourist attraction by supporting the region’s social and economic development and creating lasting opportunities for Hatta’s residents.
