Top Emirati contributors to healthcare and entities supporting Emiratization and special need integration were among 15 recipients from healthcare organizations and professionals recognized during the fourth edition of Dubai Healthcare City Authority’s (DHCA) Excellence Awards.

Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, and Chairman of Dubai Airports, DHCA today announced the winners of the fourth edition of its Excellence Awards.

Jamal Abdulsalam, CEO, DHCA, said “In response to the UAE Government’s mandate to unlock the potential of citizens and boost economic development, part of the country’s Vision 2021, the DHCA Excellence Awards 2020 recognized progress made by Emiratis and companies who are driving Emiratization through two newly introduced categories ‘Best Supporting Entity for Emiratization Award’ and ‘Top Emirati Contributor Award’.”

The 2020 edition has two broad categories - Excellence Awards and Recognition Awards. Under excellence, innovation in hospitals and clinics; quality compliance in outpatient clinics; and individual awards for distinguished nurses, physicians and allied healthcare professionals. Under recognition, awards for Emiratization and supporting people of determination.

The ‘Top Emriati Contributor Award’ was granted for the two Emirati Physicians Dr Anwar Sajwani Consultant Ophthalmologist and Dr Shaheena Dawood, Consultant Medical Oncologist.

Dr Sajwani has more than 30 years of experience specializing in the treatment of Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinal Detachments. Dr. Sajwani was the first Ophthalmologist in UAE to operate Vitreous and Retina 1999 after the establishment of Vitreo-Retinal unit in Dubai Hospital. He was also the first Ophthalmologist in the UAE to win the Sheikh Rashid Prize of Excellence for a Doctorate in 1995 and he currently serves as the Vice President of the Ophthalmology Society of the Emirates Medical Association.

Dr Dawood joined Mediclinic City Hospital in 2012 and since then she has contributed to the Dubai Healthcare City community through her treatment and research on cancer patients at the Hospital.  She is actively involved in setting up the first UAE Bio Bank in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). She has published over 100 papers including 50 peer review original articles, 30 review articles and 12 book chapters.

The Best Supporting Entity for Emiratization Award was given to the MBRU for its effort in building Emirati healthcare capacity through a number of Emiratization initiatives including several scholarship programs.

The second new category ‘People of Determination - Friendly Entity Award’ was granted to Swiss International School – Dubai for the development of a specialized inclusion department within the school and specialized curriculum for people of determination in line with the Dubai government initiative ‘My Community … A City for Everyone’ and Dubai Inclusive Education Policy Framework 2017.

The ‘Hospital Innovation Award’ was awarded to the Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) at Mediclinic City Hospital, a center of excellence for cancer treatment. The center provides treatments and cosmetic reconstruction surgeries for cancer patients using cutting edge technologies for diagnostics and radiotherapy and providing high-quality patient care.

The ‘Distinguished Nurse Award’ was presented to Naela Mohammad Mahmoud, Nurse Supervisor at the Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital, for her outstanding achievements and contributions towards the improvement in healthcare. She is an active contributor to the Life- Blood Donation Campaign in UAE.

Marisa Lobo Biddappa, Clinical Psychologist at the Kids Neuro Clinic & Rehab Centre received the ‘Distinguished Allied Healthcare Professional Award’ for her contribution towards the mental wellbeing of the community. She initiated and conducted the ‘Happy Heart’ initiative which raise awareness on issues of family and friendship relationships, bullying, peer pressure, substance abuse and provided assertive and social skills training.

Dr Sattar Alshryda, Consultant Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, was presented with the ‘Distinguished Physician Award’ for his efforts in the field of orthopedic sports medicine. He is a founding member of ICODE group (International Interdisciplinary Consensus Committee on DDH (Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip) Evaluation. Throughout his career Dr. Sattar has volunteered his time and efforts to serve the community.

The winners of the ‘Outpatient Clinics Award’ in recognition of the continuous high compliance with the quality standards of DHCR in the ‘Single Specialty Category’ were the Nisa Well Woman Clinic and Dr. Fatma Al Marashi Advanced Center for Endocrine, Diabetes & Metabolism.  In the ‘Multi-Specialty Clinics’ category the winner was My Pedia Clinic.

For the ‘Rehabilitation Centers’ category the winners were The Doris Duan-Young Autism Center.  For the ‘Outpatient Surgical Center category the winner was Laser Eye Care and Research Center. The winner for the ‘Renal Dialysis Center’ category was Amsa Renal Care.

Child Early The winners for the other new categories in the ‘Outpatient Clinic Award’ were: Fertility Clinics – Dubai Gynecology and Fertility Center; Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Center – Digestive Health & Endoscopy Consultants; Clinical Support Facility – The Family Therapy Clinic.  The ‘Clinical Support Facility Category’ was awarded to PIDDDS 3D Living.

The winners were selected by an independent judging panel to ensure the integrity of the selection process.
