Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts worth AED 1.161 billion for the Al Meydan Street Development Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity, traffic flow and road capacity across key areas of Dubai.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, the project will deliver 3,700 metres of bridges, 17 kilometres of roads and new cycling tracks connected to Dubai’s existing cycling network. It is expected to serve residential and development areas with a combined population exceeding 500,000.
Al Meydan Street serves as a strategic corridor running parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. Once completed, the development is expected to increase the capacity of north-south traffic corridors by 18% and reduce travel time between Al Manama Street and Dubai-Al Ain Road to Umm Suqeim Street from 30 minutes to 10 minutes.
The first contract covers approximately 14 kilometres, including sections of Al Meydan Street and Al Marabea’ Street. Major works include transforming the Al Marabea’ Street-Al Meydan Street intersection into a grade-separated interchange with four lanes in each direction and a capacity of 14,400 vehicles per hour. A direct connection to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and a 700-metre elevated link towards Nad Al Hamar Street will also be constructed.
The second contract covers Al Meydan Street between First Al Khail Street and Muscat Street, along with new surface roads connecting to Latifa bint Hamdan Street. The Al Meydan Street-Muscat Street intersection will also become a multi-level interchange.
The development complements the Latifa bint Hamdan Street Development Project, creating an interconnected road network linking several of Dubai’s major arterial routes. Together, the projects will support communities including Dubai Hills, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens, District One and Al Barari while strengthening infrastructure for Dubai’s continued population and urban growth.
