Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed major traffic upgrades to ease congestion and improve connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road via Al Meydan Street, cutting travel times by up to 40% and doubling road capacity in key sections.
The project involved widening Exit No. D69 from one lane to two, boosting its capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour. The bridge over First Al Khail Street was also expanded from three to four lanes in both directions, increasing capacity by over 33%—from 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles per hour—and reducing peak travel times from seven minutes to four.
RTA also widened ramps linking surface roads to the First Al Khail bridge from one lane to two, cutting congestion and wait times by more than 50% during midday and evening peaks. These improvements enhance vehicle flow between Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, and Al Hadiqa Street.
Part of a broader strategy to upgrade infrastructure across Dubai, the works align with RTA’s 2025 master plan, which includes over 75 traffic improvement projects. The initiative supports the city’s long-term goals for sustainable mobility, urban growth, and quality of life.
