Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project, expanding road capacity, improving connectivity and significantly reducing travel times across key areas of the city.
The project includes upgrades to four major intersections, four bridges and two tunnels spanning 4.3 kilometres, alongside 14 kilometres of roads. The improvements serve Za’abeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha and Umm Hurair, as well as key facilities including Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club. The population of the areas covered is expected to exceed 420,000 by 2030.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the project supports Dubai’s wider plans to develop its road and transport infrastructure in line with population growth, urban expansion and rising traffic volumes.
The project has increased the capacity of Oud Maitha Street from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions, representing a 50% increase. Journey times have also been reduced from 20 minutes to five minutes.
Key works included new and upgraded bridges and tunnels at intersections connecting Oud Maitha Road, Al Asayel Street, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Rashid Road. Additional lanes, service roads and improved access points were also introduced to ease traffic movements and address existing road overlaps.
At Za’abeel Palace Street, improvements included a new tunnel and additional lanes on key ramps and bridges, further increasing capacity and improving traffic flow towards Dubai–Al Ain Road and Oud Maitha Road.
