The UAE Mixed Martial Arts National Team has increased its medal tally to 18 at the IMMAF Youth World Championships following another podium finish at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Maryam Almutwa secured bronze in the Youth B Women’s 52kg division as competition for athletes aged 14 to 15 concluded on the fourth day of the championship. Her result brings the UAE’s overall tally to six gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.
More than 1,100 young athletes representing 55 countries are participating in the championship, which runs until 23rd August.
Competition will now move to the Youth A category for athletes aged 16 to 17, with bouts taking place over the final three days of the event.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation highlighted the championship’s importance in giving young Emirati athletes opportunities to compete against opponents with different fighting styles. Coaches have focused on developing physical and technical abilities while preparing competitors to remain composed and follow their strategies under pressure.
Almutwa said the competition taught her the importance of maintaining focus during difficult moments. Despite hoping for a stronger result, she described the international experience as valuable for her future development.
Beyond competition, the championship is also contributing to Abu Dhabi’s growing profile as a destination for international sporting events and sports tourism.
Athletes, coaches, families and delegations from around the world are spending time in the emirate during the tournament, providing them with an opportunity to experience Abu Dhabi outside Mubadala Arena.
International visitors have also praised the organisation, transportation, facilities and atmosphere surrounding the championship.
With competition continuing until 23rd August, the event will conclude with the Youth A category as the UAE looks to add further medals to its current tally.
