UAE has made tremendous strides in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with women leading the charge. Emirati women have been at the forefront of groundbreaking innovations, pushing boundaries and inspiring future generations. From space exploration to medicine and environmental sciences, these women are making their mark on the global stage.

Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri

Field: Space Science

Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri, the UAE Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, was previously the Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency. Under her leadership, the UAE launched the Hope Probe to Mars, marking a monumental achievement for the country’s space program. Al Amiri is also an advocate for women in STEM, with 80% of her science team being women. She is proud to say that the UAE's space program embraces gender equality, with equal opportunities for all.

Nora Al Matrooshi

Field: Space Engineering

Nora Al Matrooshi made history in 2021 as the first female Arab astronaut. After completing her mechanical engineering degree, Al Matrooshi trained at NASA's Johnson Space Center as part of a collaboration between NASA and the UAE's Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center. Her mission aims to inspire young girls to pursue STEM, with Al Matrooshi herself saying,

“If I can do it, then you can do it too. If no one has done it yet, then you just go ahead and be the first.”

Heyam Al Blooshi

Field: Space Engineering

Heyam Al Blooshi, an engineer for the Emirates Mars Mission, is passionate about space science. A graduate of Khalifa University with a degree in mechanical engineering, she previously worked at NASA’s Ames Research Center. Al Blooshi’s current focus is on the development of innovative space technologies that can inspire future generations to enter STEM fields. Her work on the Mars Mission reflects her commitment to advancing both the scientific and technological landscapes in the UAE.

Alia Al Mansoori

Field: Space Biology

Alia Al Mansoori has integrated biology with space exploration in her research, which focuses on heat shock proteins and their ability to protect the human body from outer space conditions. At just 15 years old, Al Mansoori had her Genes in Space experiment tested on the International Space Station. Her dream is to one day reach Mars, and she hopes that the launch of the Hope Probe will inspire young Emirati students to pursue careers in space sciences and beyond.

Field: Food and Water Security

Former UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Her Excellency Mariam Almheiri, focused on ensuring sustainable food and water supplies for future generations. Her work has included investing in technologies for food and water security, improving national food stocks, and developing international partnerships. Almheiri's holistic approach to food security aligns with the UAE's long-term goals for sustainability and ensures that the nation’s resources remain secure in the face of climate change.

Dr. Fatima Alkaabi

Field: Hematology and Oncology

Dr. Fatima Alkaabi, Director General of the Emirates Drug Establishment and Chairperson of UAE BIOTECH Research Center, has made significant contributions to the field of hematology and oncology. As Head of the Hematology and Oncology Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, she was instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading research on potential stem cell treatments for virus symptoms. Dr. Alkaabi emphasizes the importance of healthcare investment and is dedicated to improving treatments and health outcomes for those with serious medical conditions in the UAE.

Dr. Ayesha Al Memari

Field: Emergency Medicine

Dr. Ayesha Al Memari is the first Emirati woman to specialize in emergency medicine. As a consultant at Al Mafraq Hospital, she also chairs the Emergency Department and has worked in humanitarian missions across Yemen and Ethiopia. Fatima Al Kaabi
