The 12th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will bring global leaders to Dubai on October 21 and 22 to examine the policies, regulations and governance frameworks needed to turn climate ambition into action.
Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the summit is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). This year's theme is "From Success to Scale: Showcasing the Green Economy".
Four pillars will shape the agenda: Energy Technology and Infrastructure, Business Strategy and Transition, Water and Food Security, and Finance. Artificial intelligence, governance and system enablers will run through all of them.
Decision-makers, investors, infrastructure and resilience experts, and representatives from government, the private sector and academia will discuss how policy and regulation influence decisions in key markets, how global carbon markets are expanding and what that means for trade and industry, and the changing role of international climate agreements.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGEO, said the summit places governance at the heart of the green transition and advances artificial intelligence governance and long-term planning. He also pointed to the UAE's ranking as the world's fifth most competitive nation by the International Institute for Management Development, and its place among the top 10 in the 2026 Chandler Good Government Index.
Sustainable finance is also expected to feature prominently. Bashar Al-Natoor, MD and Global Head of Islamic Finance at Fitch Ratings, said outstanding ESG bonds and sukuk in the GCC have now passed USD70 billion. Avinash Kumar, President and co-founder of Earthood, said he hopes to explore how the region can treat green bonds as strategic tools for economic transformation rather than simply financing instruments.
