Artificial intelligence is transforming critical care in the UAE, with advanced ventilator systems now automatically adapting to patients' needs to improve outcomes and reduce complications.

Speaking at the 21st UAE Critical Care Conference and the Second World Summit of the World Federation of Intensive Care Societies, Dr. Zeyad Alrais, Head of the Emirates Division of Intensive Care, emphasized the role of AI in optimizing respiratory care. He explained that smart ventilation systems now adjust inhalation and exhalation timing in real time, helping to reduce manual intervention and support faster, safer recovery.

These AI-driven systems also facilitate precise weaning from ventilators based on clinical data, enabling more personalized care while easing pressure on medical staff. Dr. Alrais called this integration a "strategic step" toward enhancing clinical efficiency and improving ICU performance.

Alongside the conference, an exhibition featuring 34 local and global companies saw the launch of several innovations, including two new drugs targeting severe infections in ICUs and a small inhalation device for emergency use. New technologies such as a resuscitation unit for ambulances and a cooling device for critical temperature management were also unveiled.

Many of these products are debuting in Dubai, with industry leaders anticipating deals from regional hospitals. With the UAE positioning itself as a gateway to the Middle East's rapidly expanding healthcare market, these innovations are expected to play a significant role in meeting rising demand across the region.

The conference continues with expert-led sessions on blood poisoning, acute respiratory distress syndrome, kidney injury, pain management, and more, aimed at advancing global collaboration and best practices in intensive care.
