Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have achieved 100 percent coverage of basic health services for adolescents and young people, well above the global rate of 68 percent, according to data from the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-STAT).

The data shows that about 12.8 million people aged 10 to 24 lived in GCC countries in 2025, accounting for 20 percent of the region’s total population.

The region also recorded 100 percent compliance with basic national regulations on adolescent and youth health, compared with a global rate of 84 percent. The figures point to a commitment in two key areas, the delivery of basic healthcare services and the creation of national rules that protect young people’s health and improve access to care.

GCC countries mark Gulf Adolescent and Youth Health Day on September 30 each year. The observance highlights the importance of investing in young people’s health, strengthening preventive care and health awareness, and developing services tailored to their needs.
